The Independent's headline and article are simply dishonest. Steve Connor should be sacked.

I thought I read a few findings that showed that aerosols actually had an overall warming effect rather than a cooling one (brown cloud over Asia raising temps). Like clouds I suspect that aerosols have a multicomponent nature that contributes to cooling and warming, with the warming being the stronger component.

Also, this recent finding serves to do the opposite as far as 'causes' of warming. The adjustments proposed by McIntyre seem to erase the lack of correlation with Solar Cycles in the period, a fact that the AGW crowd has been pointing to to discredit the Solar component for a number of years. Seems they don't have that 'to kick around' anymore.

Today, I wonder if timing has anything to do with emmissions and the impact on heat retention or reflection.
Certain chemicals from specific industries coupled with a sunspot maximum or minimum should be correlated.
I did see that alvocado growers are "stumping" 30% of their trees because of water rationing in California. This is the tip of the iceburg.
Global dimming and methane hydrates have so much more to teach us I just hope we have a solution to crop yield in reduced sun and increased temperatures.

Sorry,

Cosmic Rays are charged particles and gamma rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation. Two different animals, different sources, different effects.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmic_radiation

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma_ray

I would disagree with the effects of the nukes being as large as volcanoes, but, it would mostly be arm waving comparing the time involved and the volumes of aerosols.

What else happened in 1946? Yes, the A-bombs. What did the A-bombs put into the atmosphere? Particulates, but also radiation. Perhaps this vindicates Svensmark's theory which says that cosmis rays (radiation) increase cloud formation which block sunlight. Atomic testing wound down by the early nineties at which point the (natural) heating continued its increase.

"It perhaps suggests that the role of sulphate aerosols, that cooling effect, was less powerful than we thought," said Mike Hulme

Which implies that CO2 has a less powerful warming effect.
